The Mayans predicted the end of the calendar, not the end of the world.
Besides, if they were predicting the end of the world, they are centuries too late, their world ended quite a long time ago.
I've been lucky enough to visit Chichen Itza (nice and close to Cancun), they were a very impressive civilisation and fantastic astronomers, but also obsessed with death and blood.
