What Were Your Favourite Childhood Pets?
What pets did you lot have or still have and which ones were / are your favourites?
While growing up I had a different range of pets with my sisters.' This ranged from a cat, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, a jerd (like a gerbil but a bit bigger).
I would say the best rodent out of all the ones I had were rats even though they had sharp nails and can easily scratch but if skin covered it's ok.
The cat was ok because he was friendly, didn't do much and was easily trained. Rats could be taught tricks and liked sitting on your shoulder. One problem I had though was that the rat used to leave this weird rash on my chin so I had a sensitivity to them which annoyed me. I think because they got too close to my face when they climbed up me to go on my shoulder. I was fine with the cat and other rodents. It seemed so strange.
The first rats we had could climb up our legs when they were running on the floor. They had such good grip and were clever.
Another rat we had could open his cage door. He shared a cage with a another rat who always wanted to fight with him. He didn't like fighting back and was really scared of the other rat so I guess he learnt how to open the cage door to escape.
A cat for me is a pet which is ok as well.
Even though I had all these animals I always wanted a snake as a child but never had one. I liked their markings and the way they looked. Does / has anyone ever had one?
I remember one time my cat I have now caught a snake in my back garden. My sister caught it and called the RSPCA. They came and said it was a baby Corn Snake and was a pet snake.
I wonder if it escaped how on earth did it end up being in my garden in my cat's paws or mouth? Must have belonged to someone in my neighbourhood. Maybe they left it outside and didn't want it anymore.
It wasn't badly injured. My sister must have got it in time.
