The New and First Dog at Home

My older sister bought a dog against my parents wishes as there are already 2 cats in the house.

My parents are so pissed off with her. It barks every morning when she is getting ready for work because it runs out of her room goes to the front door which is glass and barks at everything that passes by the house. It has woken my dad up and he is well annoyed.

The dog is really cute though. He is a cross breed and is long haired. I took him out for a walk and he walks so fast he tries to pull you along. I don't know how to slow him down.

We find it hard to stop him from barking as none of us has had a dog before. We know he is just guarding the house as he believes that's what he should be doing.

I think my parents are giving it a go with the dog anyway to see how they get on but we have 2 cats and the dog has scared these cats and if he sees them he will chase and bark at them. One of the cat's was in a room and my niece opened the door, the dog ran in there today going straight for the cat and then my cat tries to attack him with his claws and growls back at the dog.

Both cats are adults and are not used to dogs. The dog my sister got is obviously not used to living with cats.

Will these two animals ever get on or do they always need to be separated?

Doesn't sound like a great living arrangement for the pets, let alone the humans.

Just let them fight it out and your dog will learn to leave the cats alone, thats what we did and now my cat and dog are fine together
