New Podcast from Jonathan Davis!

Any band that has been together for 16 years is bound to develop compatibility issues. So, when we heard that Korn frontman Jonathan Davis was playing his own shows and working on a solo album, and guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer was in the new band Fear and the Nervous System (with ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, ex-Faith No More bassist Billy Gould and Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman), we figured Korn might be reaching the End of Days — especially since nearly half of the original lineup (guitarist Brian “Head” Welch and drummer David Silveria) have already left for greener — or in Head’s case, more Godly — pastures.

Then, we heard the rumors that Korn was going to reunite with their entire original lineup for their next album. Confused, we decided to track down Davis and find out what the hell was going on. In our exclusive podcast interview, the singer explained that the band has no intention of breaking up and has already made plans to re-enter the studio in November with producer Ross Robinson, who worked on Korn’s first two records, Korn (1994) and Life is Peachy (1996). Davis also filled us in on how he’d love to eventually work with Head again, how he may never again share the stage with Silveria, the progress he’s making on his first solo album and his upcoming collaboration with Clive Barker.

JAMES “MUNKY” SHAFFER OF KORN ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECT – FEAR AND THE NERVOUS SYSTEM…NEW ALBUM DUE FALL 2008!!!

KoRn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer announces plans to release a new project entitled FEAR AND THE NERVOUS SYSTEM due out fall of 2008. The record will be released on his own label, EMOTIONAL SYPHON RECORDINGS.

The band features James Christian Shaffer (“Munky”) on guitars and vocals; Billy Gould (Faith No More), bass; Wes Borland (Black Light Burns), guitars; Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion, Tenacious D), drums and percussion; Leopold Ross, programming and guitars; Zach Baird, keyboards and programming. The album will be produced by Shaffer, Ross, and Jim Monti, with additional production by Tim Harkins.

Famed producer and friend Ross Robinson (Slipknot, KoRn) comments: “What can I do to ever come close to feeling James’s level of pure ruthless courage through a guitar? Since I’ve worked with him, I've tried to inspire, convince, beg, bleed, cry, prod and nearly die, hoping to hit that bar with others. I'm grateful to know what ‘it’ is, and where it always exists—in my brother, James. His solo band? Yes, please!”

The songs are being recorded at Music Grinder Studios in Hollywood, CA, with Jim Monti handling the mixing duties. Fear and The Nervous System is an exciting project that opens up the boundaries of rock, harkening back to the days when music was fearless.
March 5, 2008 – Hollywood, CA – How does JONATHAN DAVIS, lead singer for multi-platinum, award-winning hard rock band KORN, plan to follow the band’s most successful European Tour to date? By doing something completely different, of course. Fans have come to expect the unexpected of the groundbreaking band and this Spring, European fans will witness another first when DAVIS steps out with a different band behind him, for a totally different tour.

In this unique concert experience, the critically acclaimed ALONE I PLAY TOUR, DAVIS will draw from a wide variety of material, pulling from the entire Korn repertoire with obscure tracks and fan favorites, The Queen of the Damned soundtrack and select cover tunes, focusing on songs he’s rarely – and in many cases, never – performed on stage before. Trading in amphitheatres for more intimate venues, DAVIS will launch the tour at the Stodola Theatre in Warsaw, Poland on May 20th. Highlights include stops at Berlin’s Postbanhof (May 21st) Paris’ Bataclan Theatre (June 1st) and London’s Union Chapel (June 16th). The tour will also make stops at the Festival Tents of Pinkpop (May 30th), Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park (June 7th and 8th) and the Download Festival (June 15th). The tour wraps up in Inverness on June 27th with more dates to be announced due to growing interest.

"I have wanted to do this forever. Ever since I did the Queen of the Damned record I have wanted to be able to play those songs live. The U.S. dates were a blast. Kids packed themselves into these small venues and rocked out. This is a more personal experience for me and a chance for European fans to see it up close in small rooms, says DAVIS.

Since KORN’s inception DAVIS has been venerated for his visceral personal tales, exploring his anger, inner life and the painful closeness between love/hate. The band’s most recent untitled album debuted at #2 on The Billboard 200 this past summer, marking KORN’s seventh consecutive Top 10 album and its second Top 10 CD of 2007 – following MTV Unplugged: KORN, which was released in March.

The 2008 European leg of the BITCH WE HAVE A PROBLEM TOUR, was the scene of sold out venues and set attendance records across the continent. Sold out dates included 12 shows in the U.K., and dates in Germany, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, The Czech Republic and Finland.

Hollywood, CA, USA – October 22, 2007 – Today, Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that the multi-platinum selling ground-breaking hard rock band Korn has written and recorded an original song inspired by Ubisoft’s upcoming HazeTM video game. The song will be launched to radio and video in November 2007, to coincide with the launch of the Haze video game. The single, entitled “Haze”, will be available for purchase via online music download sites.

Korn, who released their debut in 1994, has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, releasing seven consecutive multi-platinum selling albums. Their latest untitled album was released in July of this year, debuting at #2 on the US album charts and #3 on the European album charts. Lead singer Jonathan Davis has often avowed a love of video games, including games from Ubisoft like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter® 2.

“Gaming for me is a religion and Haze is the shit!” said Jonathan Davis. “I had to come up with a track that can hit up that kind of rush I get from the game and I think we really rocked it!!"

The deal with Korn is a first for Ubisoft and marks a new strategy of creative partnership with different figures in the music industry. “This partnership with Korn is original in the video game industry in that the song will be released and promoted as a full-fledged single, and not just as a download with the video game,” stated Christian Salomon, vice president of worldwide licensing at Ubisoft. “It is a testament to the synergy possibilities
between music and video games, which often share the same audience.”

Virgin Records will release the eighth studio album from the multi-platinum, award-winning hard rock band KORN. The untitled album was produced by Korn’s See You On The Other Side producer Atticus Ross (Ross is also known for his revolutionary work with NIN). In releasing an album with no title singer Jonathan Davis commented, "We didn't want to label this album. It has no boundaries; it has no limits and why not just let our fans call it whatever they wanna call it?"

This is the 4th album (the second studio) to be released through the ground-breaking partnership among Korn and Virgin Records established in 2005 by EMI, and the Firm to create a diversified business relationship operating Korn's recording, publishing, touring, sponsorship and merchandising businesses. In 2006, tour promotion giant Live Nation, which promotes the Family Values tour, became an investor in the partnership.
Los Angeles modern rock radio station KROQ recently gave “Evolution,” the album’s first single, its world premiere and the band gave its 550,000+ friends on myspace the opportunity to hear it for themselves (www.myspace.com/korn). The “Evolution” LIVE debut took place at this year’s KROQ Weenie Roast –y- Fiesta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcDrU2BYKlA ). On the topic of the new single, Jonathan Davis said, “Evolution is about us as a human race. We have not evolved since monkeys. Animals and humans are pretty much the same.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTTr1vbs5jU ) “Look at this war we’re fighting; we’re the bullies – same shit in the monkey world.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXJTC3iZDrM&mode=related&search= ). To hear and see the behind the scenes making of “Evolution”, fans can log onto www.korn.com .

This album follows the band’s ground breaking MTV Unplugged: KORN release, which debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in March 2007. The band appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and brought more musicians than the show had ever seen on their stage; 25 to be exact which included a taiko drum troupe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTND9ODe1h0 ).
